Jungian Sandplay is a relatively nonverbal therapeutic intervention that makes use of a sandtray and miniatures. Many young people are unable to verbalize emotional states, particularly in the face of trauma, neglect or grief. Sandplay can be a great fit for these clients to access unconscious material in a safe and protected space without feeling compelled to talk.
As part the approach the therapist endeavors to express unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence. This is the basis in which a warm, caring relationship can develop so the child feels free to explore and express themselves completely.
